About us
India Traveller is a travel service provider that aims to offer specialized services to travelers ranging from those who wish individually custom designed tours using luxury accommodations and facilities, to those who are interested in an informative and enjoyable individual or group tour that is also affordable. We offer only those destinations in our travel program about which we have thorough and current information. Our goal is to plan and offer enriching travel experiences that enhance the vision of our tour participants and knowledge while they enjoy their vacation also.
Brijesh Sharma established the India Traveller to offer educational, informative, enjoyable, adventurous and cultural tours as well as Himalayan cultural tour and treks. He was born and grew up in his ancestral home that is about a mile away from the world famous Taj Mahal in Agra City in northern India. He had his primary and secondary school education in St. Georges High School, a protestant Christian mission school in Agra. He studied in Radhaswami Educational Institutes College in Dayalbagh in northern Agra for his pre-college education and then earned his B.A. from St. Johns College, one the oldest and premier higher education colleges of Agra University. He studied and passed successfully in his M. A. (Previous) in Indian History but could not complete the degree course because he moved to Switzerland. The study of Indian history, nonetheless, has been his passion throughout his life. He took a special course to obtain the Government of Uttar Pradesh Tourist Guide License in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state in India. Later he was selected for the Government of India Tourist Guide License Training Program held in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan State.
After obtaining his All India Guide License from the Government of India Tourism Department, he guided and escorted individual and group tours in Jaipur, Delhi, Agra, Mathura, Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, Sariska Tiger Sanctuary, Gwalior and Khajuraho. As a cultural and wildlife tour guide he worked freelance for prominent Indian travel agencies like Sita World Travels, American Express, Thomas Cook, Mercury Travels and Travel Corporation of India. He guided and escorted tour groups of foreign travel companies like Grand Circle Tours, American Express and Unitours of the USA, Jet Tours of France, Zuid Europa of Holland and Kuoni Travels of Switzerland among many others. He has traveled and studied about interesting destinations from Kashmir in the north of India to the tip of southern India at Kanya Kumari. He has personally visited most of the destinations offered in our travel programs. He studied detailed and most authentic historical and other information on all the places included in the itineraries. The City Descriptions and History of India information on this website is just a brief summary of his exhaustive notes.
In 1980 he moved to Switzerland where he studied the German language and gradually got familiar with the many dialects of Swiss German spoken in the country. After various courses in commerce and banking, he worked with various Swiss and international banks in Zug, Zurich and Geneva until August 1999 when he moved to the U.S. Brijesh established a home based hobby travel agency called Indien Reisen for planning custom made tours to India and Nepal for individual clients in Switzerland while he was working fulltime in the credit area with international banks. In the US he successfully completed a Travel Agent Training Program at Travel Careers International, Ltd. in New York City in October 2001. He has traveled extensively in central, southern and eastern Europe, the Mediterranean Sea islands, Turkey, Egypt, Nepal, Singapore, Canada and Mexico as well as various places in mainland USA and Hawaii islands.
In June 2006 Brijesh registered India Traveller in California. India Traveller is registered with the State of California, Attorney General, as Seller of Travel under registration number 2083736-40 and we are required to deposit 100% of all customer funds into a business client trust account with a bank. We participate in the Travel Consumer Restitution Corporation as per the rules of the State of California.
The Art & Culture of Northern India Study Tour from December 25, 2006 to January 6, 2007 was our first group tour to India with 33 participants. This study tour was co-sponsored by the Division of Continuing & Global Education and the College of Arts & Humanities of the California State University, Fresno as well as by the Fresno Art Museum. We had a very positive feedback from our participants in this study tour. A brief description of this study tour along with excerpts from feedback comments of some of the participants can be viewed in References section of this website. The California State University students received three units of credit towards their degree courses and some students also received scholarships to participate in this very informative and educational study tour. Brijesh has filmed some very interesting sites in India in high definition digital tapes and is planning to market City Documentaries of important historical and cultural cities in the entire sub-continent of India. His first film documentary was a 54-minute depiction of The Art & Culture of Northern India Study Tour of 2006/2007 which is available to be viewed in the Henry Madden Library of California State University, Fresno. A 5-minute clip of this documentary is on the home page of this website. In 2007 we have organized many individual tours in various regions of India for clients in California. In 2008 all the group tours were sold out.
The Northwestern India Tour with Tiger Safari and Pushkar Camel Fair in November 2008 was sponsored by the Clovis Chamber of Commerce in California, USA. There were 20 participants in this tour. The fascinating tour included New Delhi, Agra, Ranthambhore Tiger Sanctuary, Jaipur, Pushkar, Udaipur, Ranakpur, Mount Abu and Ahmedabad.
Based on the success of our first study tour in 2006/2007, the College of Arts & Humanities of California State University, Fresno has again sponsored the India - Madhubani Art Workshop Study Tour from December 27, 2010 to January 12, 2011. Twenty students & community members participated in this fascinating study tour. International flight was arranged by Emirates Airlines from Los Angeles to Dubai and on to Delhi. The domesctic flights were by GoAir and Kingfisher Airlines. A train journey in air-conditioned Shatabdi Express was arranged from Jhansi to Agra. New Year's Eve was celebrated with a special Indian vocal classical music concert by six musicians. An exclusive Indian instrumental music with Sitar, Indian Guitar and Tabla was organized in our hotel in Agra. The participants were inspired to learn the history & background of Mithila painting. One day was devoted to painting in the Mithila Art Insitute in Madhubani. Mithila Painting is one of the world's oldest painting traditions kept alive by village women in southern Nepal and northern Bihar State of India. Other cities included in this study tour were New Delhi, Fatehpur Sikri, Agra, Orchha, Khajuraho, Varanasi, Sarnath, Patna, Vaishali and Darbhanga.
