Extension Tour of Nepal with Mount Everest Flight – 3 days

DELHI – KATHMANDU – NAGARKOT – BAKHTAPUR – PATAN

Kathmandu is the capital of Nepal and the city with maximum population in the country. It is located in a valley that includes the two smaller towns of Bhaktapur and Patan. The city lies at an altitude of 4,500 feet or 1,400 meters above sea-level. Kathmandu is an ancient city and the earliest inscription found here is dated 185 CE. The name of the city is derived from a wooden structure situated in the Durbar Square called Kashtamandap. The Sanskrit word Kashta means wood and Mandap means covered shelter. It is said that the two storied structure was made from the wood of one single tree. It does not have any iron nails; it is made completely with wood only. Pashupatinath, the Shiva Temple dates from 5th century CE. Non-Hindus can view the temple from outside. In the courtyard only Hindus are allowed. It is located about 5 kilometers from Kathmandu city center. The Buddhist Stupa of Boudhanath is about 8 kilometers east of center city. The Stupa of Swayambhunath is believed to have been built very shortly after demise of Lord Buddha. It can be reached by climbing a flight of stairs because it is located on a hill. The most important monuments of Bakhtapur are located in its Durbar square and are: The Golden Gate Entrance to the 55 window palace; the 18th century Hindu temple in the tantric tradition called Natyapol that is dedicated to the Siddhi Lakshmi Goddess; and the Pashupati Shiva Temple. Like the Bakhtapur city, the city of Patan also has most of its interesting monuments in its Durbar Square. The town of Nagarkot is at an altitude of 7,136 feet or 2175 meters above sea-level and about 32 kilometers or 20 miles from Kathmandu.
